Tree planting by the children and parents

The children of The Gurukul recently had a Tree Planting Session at our new premises. The children were accompanied by their parents and each planted one or more trees of different species in the property. The species included Mango, Jackfruit, Coconut, Chikkoo, White apple, Teak, Cherry tree, Almonds, Kannikonna and other shade giving flowering trees. It will be the children’s responsibility to look after their own trees and they get to put their name, date of birth, picture of themselves and date of planting along side the tree so that they can see it grow in years to come.

The children are also given small plots where they will do their own vegetable cultivation and flower planting. The vegetables will be used for the cooking classes that are conducted in the school for the children. At the moment, children are very enthusiastic about watering their trees and vegetable gardens. We hope the plants survive this excessive enthusiasm!
