THE GURUKUL is a unit of Dhruv Educational Trust, committed to the cause of good education.

SENIOR CONSULTANT - Mr. Murli Pendharkar

1.       Mr. Pendharkar did his education in Bombay (B.Sc), in Shantiniketan (BT) and Toronto, Canada (M.Ed).

2.       He has over 30 years work experience in Canada as a teacher, Principal and Superintendent of Schools (in charge of over 50 schools) managing a budget of $ 150 million.

3.       The Provincial Government in British Columbia appointed him the Chairman of a Health Board. The operating budget of the Board was $ 300 million.

4.       He was elected a School Trustee twice, each time for a three-year term - he was the first person of Indian Origin to be elected the Chairman of a School Board in Canada.

5.       Mr. Pendharkar was a candidate for the Canadian Parliament for the Liberal Party of Canada in 1988 and 1993.

6.       He was awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal for exemplary Community Service in 2001.

7.       He is a senior Rotarian and was awarded Rotary International's prestigious award 'Service Above Self' in 2002. He was instrumental in organising a major water project in Amreli, Gujarat worth US $ 375,000.

8.       As a youth, he was active in political activities, prior to India's independence.

With these incredible experiences in his background, what is Mr. Pendharkar doing at The Gurukul? In his own words, "I was instantly impressed with The Gurukul when I saw the school's logo: a child reading under a coconut palm! That reminded me so much of Shantiniketan. Then I read about The Gurukul. I was pleasantly surprised to note that someone in India had the foresight and the courage to fight the factory model of schooling and show India what 'educating the whole child' is all about.

Soon after, I was asked if I would consider being at the helm! I jumped at the idea. I'm glad I did. The Gurukul chidren stand out from the crowd already; and we opened our school only one and a half years ago. After seeing schools in different parts of the country, I am convinced that India needs schools such as The Gurukul."
